Butter Tarts

Butter Tarts are one of Canada's most popular desserts originating in Quebec but most popular in Ontario. This is my mother's butter tart recipe... I make it every Christmas to give to family and friends... it was once of my Dad's favourites. If I wasn't lactose intolerant, I don't know how many I would give away, LOL!

Butter Tarts Recipe

​READY IN: 30 mins
YIELD: 12-14 tarts

​INGREDIENTS

​2⁄3 cup white sugar
1 cup raisins
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1⁄2 cup butter
5 tablespoons half-and-half

​DIRECTIONS

1. Beat eggs, melt butter.
2. Combine melted butter, sugar and vanilla.
3. Off heat add half/half and eggs.
4. Bring to boil, reduce to medium heat for 3 minutes.
5. Add *raisins at beginning of boil.
6. Fill tart shells. (I cheat and use pre-made)
7. Bake 15 minutes at 350 on bottom rack.

*raisins are optional
*try substituting pecans instead of raisins
